Angul/Sundargarh/Rayagada: Three persons including a 7-year-old lost their lives and three others were injured due to elephant attacks in different parts of Odisha today.

An elderly man, identified as Sundur Dehuri of Basantpur village under Chhendipada police limits of Angul district was trampled to death by a wild elephant this morning while going to a nearby field to answer the call of nature.

Following the elderly person’s death, irate villagers detained forest staff who reached the spot after receiving information.

In another case, a woman was admitted to the SCB hospital, Cuttack, in critical condition after being attacked by a jumbo at Sugara village in Kamakhyanagar of Dhenkanal district.

Similarly, a seven-year-old faced the wrath of an elephant and was crushed to death in Dhobadanda village of Sundargarh district while going to a nearby forest accompanied by mother and brother. The child’s mother and brother had to be rushed to a local hospital in critical condition after also being hurt in the elephant attack.

In another tragic case, a resident of Gunduriguda village under Ambadala police limits of Rayagada district was mauled to death by a wild pachyderm.
