Nabarangpur/Dhenkanal: At least three persons were killed and four others sustained critical injuries following two separate bomb explosions in Nabarangpur and Dhenkanal districts on Monday.

The first mishap occurred near Mundibeda Benasa village under Raighar police limits while three daily wage labourers were returning home in a tractor after finishing their work Monday evening. As per sources, three of them got out of the tractor to check a 'strange-looking' suspicious item kept on the roadside when suddenly the object exploded killing them on the spot.

All the deceased were identified to be residents of nearby Lalmati village. Though police rushed to the spot and began an investigation, it is yet to be ascertained whether the explosion was due to landmines or some other mysterious object.

In another incident that took place late in the evening, four persons of a family including a two-year-old and an elderly man sustained grievous injuries after a bomb kept inside their house at Jharada village under Gandia block of Dhenkanal district exploded.

Soon after the explosion, the four were rushed to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where they are undergoing treatment.

As per the family members, the bomb was kept to drive away the wild elephants venturing into the area. Unaware of the consequences, the two-year-old rolled down the bomb when it exploded injuring four from the family.
