Rourkela: Police today arrested three inter-state fraudsters from Rourkela for allegedly duping thousands of students and parents of around Rs 50 lakh on the assurance of helping the students getting enrolled in various medical colleges across the State.

The Kuarmunda police seized 10 passbooks of various banks from their possessions. Police said the seized bank accounts have savings amounting around Rs 10 lakh to Rs12 lakh.

Police said the trio opened accounts in various banks in the steel city producing the fake voter IDs, Aadhar cards, driving licence and handed over the passbook and ATM card to the main gang operating outside the State.

The inter-State gang used to make a list of the students, who have failed the AIPMT and NEET and assure them to get them enrolled in various medical courses. and in return they were asked to deposit some amount in the accounts provided.

"The accused trio had been hired by the gang. They opened the forged accounts in different banks. A team has already left for outside to nab the main gang", DSP PK Mishra said.

Sources said two teams of the Rourkela police have been sent outside the State for further investigation.
