Bhubaneswar: Three government engineers and the executing agency have been held responsible for the collapse of RCC slab of the bridge constructed under the Biju Setu Yojana (BSY) over river Jeera on Jamdol-Dhubenpali road in Bargarh district.

Executive engineer Amulya Mohapatra, junior engineer Manoranjan Mohapatra and assistant engineer Kamalakant have been indicted for negligence in the report while a notice to blacklist the contractor of the concerned executing agency has also been issued.

The committee submitted its preliminary report in connection with the mishap to the Odisha government recently.

As per the findings of the committee, the mishap occurred as there was no staging under the soffit slab and the casting was done without any support from the ground.

The work on the bridge that began in 2016 was awarded to Amardeep Agarwal, a special class contractor of Padmapur in Bargarh district with an agreement value of Rs 10.46 crore.

Though the work on 8 spans out of 9 was already completed, the casting of the top slab (deck slab) of the box was taken up under the supervision of Amulya Mohapatra, Manoranjan Mohapatra and Kamalakant when the mishap occurred on September 24, 2017, the report highlighted.
