Berhampur: The Ganjam district administration on Wednesday night sealed three medicine shops located on premises of the MKCG Medical College and Hospital over alleged irregularities in records.

A team including Additional Tehsildar and Drug Inspector raided the shops and examined medicine stocks and documents.

Following the move, drug shop owners met the Sub Collector and lodged a grievance saying that unnecessarily their shops have been sealed.

Niranjan Dalai, a drug seller, said, "Though we have followed the guidelines we don’t know why the district administration sealed the shops."

After the Niramaya yojana was launched, the State government asked the shops to close. However, the shop owners moved the Orissa High Court and received a stay order on the government's decision.

Meanwhile, attendants of patients suffered due to late night closure of the shops by the district administration.

Pradeep, an attendant, said, "Relatives of patients with heart complications or accident victims are finding it difficult to get medicines after shops have been sealed."

Neither the district administration nor MKCG hospital authorities were available for comments.
