3 die, 40 hurt in bus mishap in Konark

Konark: In a tragic incident, three were killed and 40 injured when a bus going towards Paradip from Astaranga overturned into a canal near Jiunti Chhak here this morning.

Driver and another staff of the bus ‘HariOm’ were among the three persons who died on the accident spot. The injured passengers were rushed to the Kakatpur hospital for treatment. However, 20 of them were later shifted to hospitals in Bhubaneswar as their conditions worsened.

According to some bus passengers, the mishap occurred at around 6.15 am today after the driver lost control of the bus running at a high speed causing the mishap.

Meanwhile, irate locals block the road near Jiunti Chhak with burning tyres demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. Officials of the district administration and police reached the spot to examine the situation and restore normalcy in the area.
