Berhampur: Three police personnel including an Inspector-In-Charge(IIC) were injured after a mob resorted to stone pelting in Govindpur area of Ganjam district today.

The incident took place when the cops had gone to pacify the protesters, who took to the streets against an attack on the driver of a cashew-laden truck by a group of unidentified miscreants at Taptapani ghati on Monday night.

After getting information about the incident, locals staged a road blockade near Govindpur by placing trees, and demanding action against the accused, sources informed.

The road blockade brought the traffic to a standstill following which a police team arrived at the spot and tried to disperse the crowd.

Subsequently, the situation went out of control when police lathi charged at the violent crowd. Following which locals began to pelt stones at them.

Two of the injured cops have been identified as Patapur IIC Golak Chandra Pallai and Sub-Inspector PK Pradhan.
