Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains were reported in 25 blocks of eight districts of the State in the past 24 hours following which the government has directed district collectors to take measures to provide relief to people in the affected areas.

While Kanas block in Puri recorded maximum 274 mm rainfall, Khunta and Gopabandhunagar in Mayurbhanj registered 217 mm rains.

In Chilika and Tirtol, 207 mm and 200 mm rainfall was recorded, respectively.

As per norms, if any place records rainfall above 124.5 mm, the government can undertake relief measures and order for repair of public infrastructure out of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

In a note published by SRC's office Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi has asked Collectors of the eight districts to assess the damage of private properties such as houses and crop land in the blocks in their respective districts and enumerate beneficiaries by Oct 30, so that assistance is paid as per the norms of the State Disaster Response Fund.

The 25 blocks in Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri and Rayagada recorded an average rainfall of 160.952 mm, as against the State average of 48.2 mm.
