Childline thwarts child marriage bid in Balasore

Balasore: Childline today successfully prevented a family's attempt to marry off their minor daughter at a temple in Khantapada in the district.

Niranjan Das, son of Antaryami, of Srijanga village under Khantapada police station in the district was engaged to a minor girl of Gopalpur. All arrangements were made for the wedding at the nearest Ram temple.

On a tip-off, Childline officials along with police rushed to the spot and persuaded families of bride and groom to refrain from marrying off a girl below 18 years of age.

The marriage was stalled after parents of bride and groom agreed to go by the advice of administrative officials. They also gave a written undertaking to that effect. No action has been taken against anybody in this regard, reports said.
