Puri: Two members of a family including a 12-year-old minor girl were killed after they sustained critical burn injuries in a fire incident that occurred under mysterious circumstances at Pipili in the wee hours on Sunday.

The deceased identified as Md Abul (65) and his 12-year-old daughter Najo died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Earlier, Md Abdul, his wife Rahima (55) and 12-year-old daughter were rescued in a critical condition by a team of fire fighters after their house caught fire at around 12: 40 am today.

Sustaining 90 percent burn injuries, all the three were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after preliminary treatment at Pipili Community Health Centre first and then in Capital hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Neighbours suspect some 'foul play' as the door of their asbestos room was locked from outside.

Though the exact cause of fire is still not clear, it is suspected that someone set ablaze the house by pouring kerosene when the family was sleeping.

The condition Abul's wife Rahima is still critical and senior police officials have rushed to the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
