Baby dies after being branded with hot seed

Nabarangpur: In yet another case of cruel traditional practice to cure disease, a two-month-old boy suffering from cold cough and fever was branded with hot seeds at Bharasundhi village under Raighar block leading to the death of the infant at the Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital while undergoing treatment late last night.

The deceased, identified as Akash Ganda and son of Biju Ganda, was admitted to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition yesterday evening after family members administered the hot seed branding on the infant's stomach to cure him from cold cough and fever.

Despite substantial efforts by doctors of the hospital, the baby infant could not be saved.
