Jajpur: At least two persons were killed after their motorbike was nit by a speeding truck near Chhatia on NH-5 within Barachana police station limits in the district today, the police said.

The deceased have been identified as Keshab Chandra Samal and Amar Kumar Sahu, both employees of a local Indian Oil Corporation filling station.

The accident occurred while the duo was travelling to Cuttack on a bike from the filling station, to deposit money in a bank.

A speeding truck hit them from behind and ran over them while they were crossing the National Highway, said Manas Kumar Chakra, officer-in-charge of Chhatia Beat house.

Soon after the incident, local people staged a road blockade with the bodies demanding adequate compensation to the next to kin of the victim families.

Vehicular traffic between Chandikhole and Cuttack was disrupted for over an hour following the blockade, which was withdrawn after the oil company assured them of compensation of Rs two lakh each.

Later, local police sent the bodies for post mortem.
