Angul/Ganjam: Two persons were killed and another sustained grievous injuries in two separate road accidents in Angul and Ganjam districts here on Monday.

In Angul district, two persons travelling in a motor cycle collided with the iron signboard of a diversion near an under construction bridge in Banara area. The duo was reportedly returning to Deogarh from Talcher when the incident occurred, sources said.

While the person driving the vehicle was killed on the spot, the pillion rider Monty Singh was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

The deceased has been identified as Biranchi Nayak from Kailash in Deogarh district.

Holding the bridge construction company responsible for the mishap, the locals staged demonstration demanding compensation for the deceased as well as medical expenses of Monty Singh.

In another incident, an elderly pedestrian was run over by a truck near Bhatakumuruda under Purushottampur police limits in Ganjam district.

The accident occurred when the person, Nrusingha Nahak was walking along the road today morning. Suddenly an over speeding truck hit him from behind following which he was killed on the spot.

Irked, local people staged a road blockade demanding adequate compensation for the family of the deceased.

Soon, police and fire personnel rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. The blockade was later withdrawn after the police pacified the protesters and assured them of fulfilling their demands.

"We have sent the body to MKCG hospital in Berhampur for post mortem. Probe is on into the incident,” said a police official.
