Bhubaneswar: The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) has decided to resort to alternative measures tomorrow after its 24-hour deadline to the agitating teachers of non-government colleges to join the evaluation of annual Plus Two papers ended this evening.
“We will request the teachers of private, aided and autonomous degree colleges as well as the newly created universities to join the evaluation. Simultaneously, we will also request the concerned college principals and university vice chancellors to relieve the teachers they are willing to spare so that they can join the evaluation at the nearest valuation centres,” CHSE chairpersons Dr Basudeb Chhatoi told media persons here.
Expressing resentment against the gross apathy of the state government, an agitating college teacher said the aggrieved teachers are now fully aware of its attitude. “This government has time and again betrayed us after giving us assurances. We are on the verge of retirement from our service. Despite this, we are still agitating under the scorching sun in the hope that the government will actively consider our case,” he added.
He further said the agitating teachers are not forcing other teachers to stay away from evaluation; we are only requesting them to boycott the evaluation.
“We have decided to boycott the valuation until the government accepts our demands,” he pointed out.
Concerned over the ongoing impasse, well-known academician Pritish Acharya said the government, instead of remaining adamant on its stand, should call up the agitating teachers for a discussion.
“It does not matter whether the teachers will stick to their demands or agree to the suggestions of the state government. After all, the teachers cannot call up the government for a meeting. Considering the prevailing impasse, the government should take the initiative and try to resolve the issue at the earliest,” he observed.
Notably, the CHSE Examination Committee in a meeting on Tuesday had decided to give 24 hours to the agitating non-government college teachers to join the evaluation of the annual Plus Two evaluation work, failing which it had threatened to take alternative measures.
