Baripada: The police today detained two of the six accused allegedly involved in the gang rape of a girl here at Udala in Mayurbhanj district.

Acting on the complaint filed by the rape survivor, Superintendent of police‎ (SP) R Prakash, along with a scientific team, rushed to Udala on Tuesday for an on-the-spot investigation.

"We have detained the prime accused Purna Chandra Rout and his accomplice Chandan Behera for interrogation. Investigation is on," said Prakash.

Earlier on May 3, Purna had lured the girl to Udala on the pretext of marriage and locked her in an abandoned house in the area. Later, he and his two other friends, Chandan and Tuna, allegedly gang raped her. Later, three more friends of the accused joined them in the crime. The incident came to light after the girl escaped and lodged a police complaint on Sunday.
