18 Awarded Life Term In 2011 Murder Case In Bolangir

Bolangir: While hearing the murder case in Saltarpali area under Bolangir Sadar police limits, 18 people were sentenced to life imprisonment today by the Bolangir District Sessions judge.

The case was reported on July 5, 2011, when one Chapdhari Jaal was brutally murdered by 19 people. According to sources, Chapdhari used to assault villagers in an inebriated state following which some people took the extreme step.

Later, in an attempt to cover up the crime, Chapdhari's killers dumped his body on a railway track. Subsequently, police had arrested 19 people. However, one person died during the course of the trial.

"19 people had murdered Chapdhari Jaal and tried to pass it off as an accident. Based on the statements of 13 witnesses, the accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment," Government lawyer Ashok Mohanty said.
