Khurda: Forest department officials today rescued an injured python near Barunei hills of Khurda district.
According to the officials, the 15 ft long reptile was spotted by the locals lying near the hills, who in turn informed the forest department.
Soon, the officials rushed to the spot to facilitate its treatment. After a preliminary treatment, the python has been kept under observation, sources said.
The snake is suspected to have been hit by a vehicle while crossing the road following which it got injured and could not move further, said a local.
"The python, aged around 6-7 years underwent a preliminary treatment. All its wounds have been cleaned. After the treatment, it’s in a better condition now. If any further treatment is required, we will shift it to Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) or else after the department certifies, it will be released either in the Barunei or Chandaka forests," said Khurda Ranger.
