Khurda: Forest department officials today rescued an injured python near the Barunei hills of Khurda district. According to the officials, the 15-foot-long reptile was spotted by the locals lying near the hills, who in turn informed the forest department.

Soon, the officials rushed to the spot to facilitate its treatment. After a preliminary treatment, the python has been kept under observation, sources said. The snake is suspected to have been hit by a vehicle while crossing the road following which it got injured and could not move further, said a local.

"The python, aged around 6-7 years underwent a preliminary treatment. All its wounds have been cleaned. After the treatment, it’s in a better condition now.

If any further treatment is required, we will shift it to Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT), or else after the department certifies, it will be released either in the Barunei or Chandaka forests," said Khurda Ranger.
