Deogarh: The district unit of Congress today observed a bandh demanding fulfillment of a 10-point charter of demands.

Activists of the party blocked roads at important junctions in the district headquarters and staged demonstrations. Vehicular movement on NH-49 came to a complete standstill due to the bandh.

Despite the presence of police personnel at the protest sites, tension erupted for a while. As a precautionary measure, the police have arrested 15 Congress activists.

Sem Hembram, Deogarh District President, Congress, said, “Though we were demanding fulfillment of basic rights of the people of Deogarh, the district administration forcibly arrested us during the protest. The State government is treating the people of Deogarh a step children. The fight will continue. If any untoward situation arises in future, the state government will be responsible for it.”

The Congress activists were demanding immediate release of input subsidy to farmers, appointment of doctors in the district hospitals and recruitment of teaching staff for the colleges among other things.
