Balasore: A day after the brutal murder of four persons including three of a family at Paganai in Balasore, police sources today disclosed 14 miscreants were involved in the ghastly act.

With a motive to eliminate Pratibha Mandal, six miscreants of the total 14 entered the house of the woman while eight others guarded outside in between 2 am and 4 am on January 28, the sources added.

After beheading Pratibha, the miscreants were in dilemma whether to kill the three others in the house. However, due to a fear of being caught, the miscreants stabbed her son, daughter and a relative’s son to death while they were sleeping, the sources informed.

The Balasore district police have acquired vital clues regarding the murder during interrogation of five persons detained by them.

Two teams of police have been sent outside the State to nab the assailants suspecting that they might have managed to sneak.

Meanwhile, Niti Shekhar, Balasore SP, said, “We have managed to get a detailed account of the crime and complete information on persons involved in the gory murder,” adding no one has been arrested yet in connection with the case though some people have been quizzed.

Shekhar added, “The killings have been undertaken in a revengeful mode as understood from a family dispute in which Pratibha was involved.”

A police official in condition of anonymity stated there was a land dispute between the families of Kanhu Majhi and Anita Majhi.

Four persons including elder son of Anita were arrested regarding Kanhu’s murder case occurred on October 27.

It is suspected that Kanhu's family targeted Pratibha as her brother was helping the family of Anita in getting bail.
