12-year-old girl drowns in Paradip Port club swimming pool

Paradip: Tragedy struck at the posh officers’ club of Paradip Port Trust after a 12 -year-old girl met watery grave at the swimming poll of the club.

The victim has been identified as Aparna Priyadarsahi, a class six student of a local school. Ironically the mishap took place when she was learning swimming in the presence of an instructor.

The death of the girl has sent shockwaves across the port township as mishap of this nature at the elite club is said to be first-of-its kind. The drowning of the girl despite the presence of the instructor has raised safety concerns at the club’s swimming pool.

The victim, whose father Sankar Swain works in Paradip Port, was rushed to government-run Biju Memorial Hospital where medicos declared her brought dead. The police have registered a case under the Criminal CrPC 174 (unnatural death). “We are investigating the case,” said the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Paradip, Gadadhar Pradhani.
