Baripada: Protesting the deteriorating law and order situation and the inaction of police in the locality, the Udala Banika Sangha of Mayurbhanj district observed a 12-hour bandh today affecting the normal life.

As part of the protest, members of the body staged picketing and road blockades at various places in the town. Bus service was completely affected bringing the vehicular movement to a grinding halt. Besides, shops and other business establishments remained close during the dawn-to-dusk bandh.

The protestors demanded compensation to the youth, who had sustained serious injuries when some members of a local club attacked him at the Udala High School ground on September 20. The body threatened that the bandh would continue in the town for an indefinite period if the issues are not resolved at the earliest.

On the other hand, police forces have been deployed in various areas to avoid any unpleasant situation.
