Berhampur: Eleven students were injured after a truck hit an auto rickshaw in which they were travelling near Bauri Gandapalli area in Khalikote in Ganjam district on Friday.

All the victims have been identified as students of the Adarsh Vidyalaya located at Bauri Gandapalli area under Rambha police station.

The injured students were first rushed to Rambha hospital and later shifted to the MKCG hospital in Berhampur after their condition deteriorated.

“The accident took place when we were on our way to school. A speeding truck hit out auto rickshaw. There were 11 students in the auto rickshaw,” one of the injured students said.

“The truck hit the auto rickshaw from its back side near a petrol pump close to the school. Out of the 11 students travelling in the auto rickshaw, seven sustained serious injuries in the accident,” a teacher of the school said.
