Bhubaneswar: In a bid to impart education on the patterns of Kendriya Vidyalays (KV) to the students of backward regions in Odisha, 100 model schools started functioning in 14 districts from Tuesday.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to inaugurate one such school at a function in his constituency Hinjli today.

Christened as Adarsha Vidyalayas, these schools with hostel facilities will follow the CBSE syllabus, with English as the first language and Odia as the second language.

“We are committed to improving the education system in backward regions. We hope that we will be successful in opening such schools in all the 314 blocks of Odisha by the 2017-18 academic session,” School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra said.

The schools with teacher-pupil ratio of 1:25 and classroom-student ratio of 1:40, will offer education from Standard VI to Standard XII. The total strength of each class will be 80, with 40 students in each section, said sources.

As much as 50 per cent of the total seats will be reserved for scheduled categories and girl students, added sources.

The schools are envisaged to be managed by the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan formed by the state in line with the Kendriya Vidyalay Sangathan.
