Jagatsinghpur: A 10-year-old girl married off to a 23-year-old differently-abled man at Mangarajpur village under Kujang police station in Jagatsingpur district was rescued by a team of police and the District Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) late on Thursday night.

The matter came to light after the SDPO received a complaint about the illegal marriage that took place last evening. The official tipped off the CDPO, who along with the police officials raided the victim's house and rescued the minor girl.

As per the reports the minor girl belongs to Mangarajpur village and was married off to a physically disabled youth of nearby Hasina village in the district.

The officials first raided the youth's residence and simultaneous raided the minor girl's house from where the latter was rescued.

Investigation into the incident is on and more details are awaited.

Notably on April 25, a child welfare officer, child development project officer (CDPO), social activists and police personnel foiled marriage of a 16-year-old orphan girl in Kabisuryanagar of Ganjam district.
