Cuttack: The Commissionerate police on Thursday said it had registered as many as 10 cases against gangster brothers Sushil and Sushant Dhalsamanta after getting ‘strong’ evidence regarding their criminal empire in and outside Odisha.

Besides, it has so far seized above Rs six crore cash from the possession of the criminal duo.

“We have registered 10 cases against them (Dhalasamanta brothers). Apart from seizing Rs 3.63 crore in cash from their possession, we have frozen several bank accounts having a total of Rs 2.65 crore,” police commissioner YB Khurania told the media here.

Official sources said of the 10 cases,two have been filed under Homicide, three for assuming fake identity and one each under extortion, fake currency, Arms act and Excise Act.

Police said a huge cache of live ammunition, including 27 fire arms and a carbine, have been seized.

“We have arrested 17 persons in this connection and sent them to police custody for interrogation,” Khurania stated.

On the investigation into the carbine seized from D brothers, which police claimed was procured from Indian Ordnance Factory, Kolkata, the commissioner said that they will be able to know about progress of the case once the probe team returns from the West Bengal capital.
