Malkangiri: One of the 12 Maoists, who were arrested yesterday by Malkangiri police, was found hanging today inside a bathroom on premises of the SP office today. He was identified as Soma Kabasi of Jandraguda village.

Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena informed while the police was taking the 12 Maoists to a court, Kabasi sought permission to go to the bathroom. He went inside and did not come out after a considerable time. Police personnel present there got suspicious and broke open the bathroom to find Kabasi attempting to hang with the help of a towel.

He was rescued and rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. Later, after a post mortem, the body was handed over to family members of Kabasi.

"The Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) DSP has been asked to probe the matter," Meena said.

Yesterday the Malkangiri police had arrested the 12 Maoists after carrying out  combing operations at several places in the district.

The arrested ultras were involved in various crimes, including murder and violence.

During police interrogation, it was revealed that the 12 arrested, who were working in different Maoist divisions, were involved in the recent murder of three persons suspected of being police informers in the district.
