1 killed, more than 30 injured in bus-dumper collision

Sundergarh: In yet another road mishap, one person was killed and more than 30 people got critically injured after a bus in which they were travelling collided head-on with a dumper on NH-143 near Rajamunda under Lahunipada police station of the district late Monday night.

According to sources, the private passenger bus 'Dipu Babu', bearing registration number OD 11K 7383 heading towards Baripada from Rourkela, was hit by a dumper coming from the opposite direction.

Soon, Lahunipada police and locals rushed to the spot to evacuate the passengers and other injured persons.

After the mishap, the dumper driver was killed on the spot, while 30 persons, including the passengers, driver and conductor of the bus, have been grievously injured in the accident, sources added.

"Persons with minor injuries have been admitted to Lahunipada Hospital and Bonai Hospital and those sustaining severe injuries have been shifted to Rourkela Hospital. The condition of at least eight persons is still critical," said a police official.
