Bhubaneswar/Balasore/ Bolangir: One person was killed and another critically injured when a tree branch fell on them near Patakarapalli in Bargarh during Nor'wester rains on Sunday.

Normal life at many places of the State was also affected as trees were uprooted while disruption in power supply was also reported during thunderstorm today.

However, the Nor'wester rains this evening brought respite to people of many places including Bolangir which were reeling under intense heat wave conditions.

Maximum temperature which was hovering over 40 degrees Celsius at many places fell significantly.

Bolangir, Bhawanipatna and Angul recorded maximum temperature at 39.2, 39 and 38.7 degrees Celsius respectively. Mercury in the State's Capital also fell significantly at 35.8 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted cloudy sky in several places in next 24 hours.

Rains accompanied by thunderstorms are also likely at some places.
