Bhubaneswar: As many as 1,03,200 cognisable offences were registered in Odisha in 2015, the White Paper on crimes in the state prepared by the Home department and tabled in the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday revealed.

According to the White Paper, 1473 murder cases, 486 dacoities, 1787 loots, 4,046 snatching, 10,055 theft, 2,935 fraud, 1,976 riots, 2,286 rape, 54 antisocial activities, 6,016 dowry, 76 suicides due to dowry torture, 3,634 dowry torture cases and 1,698 family dispute cases have been registered in 2015.

As many as 2,504 cases of torture of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled tribe people have been recorded in 2015. While 1,816 torture cases have been filed on people of Scheduled Caste category, 688 cases have been registered on people belonging to Scheduled Tribe category, the White Paper stated.

Besides, 10, 542 accident cases have been registered in 2015 out of which 10, 449 cases are true, the White Paper informed.

The Home Department White Paper has also informed that the Naxal situation in 11 districts in the State has improved marginally. The 11 districts where the situation has improved are: Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh and Nayagarh.

According to the White Paper, 72 incidents of Maoist violence took place in 2015 in which 26 common men, four security personnel and nine Maoists lost their lives.

While 53 Marxists were arrested in 2015, 255 arms and ammunition were seized in the year, the White Paper said. ITR photographer Ishwara Beheaded was arrested, Subhas Ramachandran held for Puri train arson incident and Abdur Rehman was arrested in 2015 for running a madarsa illegally at Tangi in Cuttack, the White Paper said.
