Cuttack: More than 50 houses were gutted after a major fire broke out at Belda village in Choudwar area here on Saturday night.

According to sources, the fire broke out in a thatched house in the evening yesterday and the flames engulfed the entire village in no time.

The fire went out of control after a gas cylinder exploded in a house in the village, the sources added.

On being informed about the incident, four fire tenders rushed to the spot but it took tow hours of tireless efforts by the firemen before the blaze was brought under control.

Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra visited the spot and took stuck of the situation.

After reviewing the situation there, the district administration announced a relief for three days for the fire mishap victims.
