Kendrapara: The mortal remains of Kendrapara resident Prabhat Kumar Barik, who died in Doha, Quatar last month, was brought to Bhubaneswar on Wednesday evening following personal intervention of senior leader and BJP National Vice-President Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda.

According to reports, Prabhat was working as a wielding mechanic in a private company in Doha. On March 16, an official of the human resource department of the company informed Barik’s wife Kabita over phone that Prabhat had died. Though Kabita wanted to know the cause of the death, the official allegedly didn’t inform her.

Suspecting Prabhat could have been murdered, the hapless family sought help from Panda for the repatriation of his mortal remains from the foreign land.

Following their request, Panda wrote to the Indian Embassy in Doha for initiating the necessary steps to facilitate the return of Barik’s mortal remains to his home town in Kendrapara so that his family could perform his last rites. The embassy got into the job and completed the necessary formalities in facilitating the repatriation of the mortal remains of Prabhat immediately.

The last rites of Barik was performed by his family members at Pradhanpatikira village under the Patkura Police Station in the district today.

The family members have expressed their gratitude towards the popular leader for help at the time of distress.

Meanwhile, Panda has expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members of Prabhat over his sad demise.
