Cuttack: Body of a 7-year-old female elephant was recovered near Sabar Taila village under Sukasan reserve of Athagarh forest range in the district today.
According to sources, some locals spotted the body of the elephant and later informed the forest officials.
Though the exact reason behind the death of the elephant is yet to be ascertained, locals said that they found excessive blood coming out of the animal's mouth.
On getting information, officials of the forest department reached the spot and started an investigation.
It is being suspected that the deceased pachyderm could be a part of the herd of elephants which had strayed into the forest.
