BMC Removes Hanging Wires Over Road Medians In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: The cables and wires dangling from electricity poles, lamp posts and advertisement boards installed ‘illegally’ on road medians in the capital city were removed during a special drive undertaken by the joint enforcement squad of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday.
Reportedly, the civic body had issued a notice to all the wire operators to remove the hanging clutters. Failing to make any impact, two teams led by BMC North Zone Deputy Commissioner, Pramod Kumar Prusty today decided to do the job and subsequently all the overhead cables in the medians along the stretch between Jaydev Vihar square and NALCO square in Bhubaneswar, were removed.
“The cables are being removed because these were harming the beauty of the smart city. Secondly, the operators are not permitted to install cables in the median poles. We had earlier notified them to remove the cables, but they did not follow our orders,” said Prusty.
The BMC official further said, ‘The light poles installed at the medians are lit up through underground cabling. But the way the dangling wires have been installed in median poles is illegal and doesn’t look good either. So taking cognisance of the same, the joint enforcement team of the BMC decided to remove all the hanging cables.”
Asked about the claims of these operators paying money to BMC, Prusty refuted.
