Angul: In a bizarre incident, locals in Bagedia village in Angul sought the help of sorcerers to resurrect a dead cow, killed due to snake bite. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon after a venomous snake attacked the cow while it was grazing in a field close to the village.

Following the incident, a few locals informed the owner of the cow. However, instead of admitting the animal to a veterinary hospital, two sorcerers were called to infuse life into the animal.

This might be the first incident when black magic was performed to bring a cow back to life but similar attempts to resurrect humans have been reported from different parts of the state.

A few days back, family of a woman bitten by a snake asked a sorcerer to heal her through black magic instead of seeking medical help.

The incident took place on premises of the Community Health Centre in Chhendipada of Angul district where a patient Jhuna Bhutia from Mamuria village was admitted.

Similarly on August 5, family members of a 24-year-old youth of Salerapada under Thakurmunda block of Baripada, who died of snake bite, asked a black magician to chant mantras through mobile phone to bring the deceased back to life.

The youth had died while undergoing treatment at the Karanjia hospital of Mayurbhanj district.
