Black magic performed at hospital to cure Odisha woman of snakebite

Angul: In yet another incident of regressive practices still being followed, family members of a woman, who was bitten by a snake, performed black magic on her without seeking medical help.

The incident took place at the Community Health Centre in Chhendipada of Angul district where a patient Jhuna Bhutia from Mamuria village was admitted. However, the doctors asked to shift the patient to the District Headquarters Hospital after her condition deteriorated.

However, the suggestion of the doctors fell on deaf ears and the patient’s relative decided to call a black magician who started performing black magic in front of the hospital.

“Due to illiteracy and blind faith, people are still resorting to such practices. There a need to spread awareness,” an official of the hospital said.

Later, the woman was taken back to her home by her relatives, sources informed.

This is not the first such incident where a black magician was called to a hospital to cure ailments.

On August 5, family members of a 24-year-old youth of Salerapada under Thakurmunda block of Baripada, who died of snake bite, took help of a black magician to bring the deceased back from the dead.

The youth had died while undergoing treatment at the Karanjia hospital of Mayurbhanj district.
