Bhubaneswar: Throwing law and order to wind in the Capital city, a group of miscreants allegedly attacked BJP’s Bhubaneswar district president Harekrushna Khuntia in full public glare near Ekamra haat on Friday.

According to preliminary reports, as many as 10 miscreants holding sticks and covering their faces with cloth charged at Harekrushna while he had gone to his friend’s office near Ekamra haat, leaving him injured. The miscreants also reportedly ransacked the office premises.

Khuntia was taken to Capital Hospital immediately after the incident for necessary treatment, sources said.

ACP and other senior police officials under Capital police limits reached the spot to probe the matter. Footage of the incident suspected to be caught in CCTV cameras installed near the spot are also being checked to ascertain the identity of the miscreants.

While the exact reason is yet to be clear, Harekrushna has lodged a complaint at the police station alleging that Bhubaneswar MP's representative Debasish Nayak is the mastermind behind the attack. Based on the complaint, police have detained Nayak and interrogating him.

"Bhubaneswar MP's representative Debashish Nayak is behind the attack which was executed over political rivalry," alleged Harekrushna.

Responding on the matter, BJP's Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi said she came to know about the incident and  discussed it with the police. She added that law will take its own course.
