BJP targets Odisha govt over ostracised man carrying dead body on bicycle

Bhubaneswar: A day after an ostracised man was seen carrying the dead body of his sister-in-law on a bicycle to the crematorium, the BJP today came down heavily on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik alleging that while the State government is blowing its own trumpet on development through ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikash’, many such disgraceful incidents continue to surface tarnishing the image of the state.

Chief of the BJP’s state unit, Basant Panda citing that ostracisation is a criminal offence, questioned is the incident which sent shockwaves throughout the state not enough for the government to realise that it has been unable to curb such immoral social evils.

“Is the incident not enough to wake up this inactive government or is it that the corrupt coterie that is ruling the state has lost its sensitivity. It is very saddening to see such incidents, from people carrying dead bodies on shoulders or cycles to ambulance failure, which continue to tarnish the image of our state not only in our country but globally,” Panda said.

Panda further added, while the government is making tall claims of taking development to every corner of the state through its Ama Gaon Ama Vikash scheme, such incidents are enough to show that it is all a farce.

On the other hand, the ruling-BJD said that the allegations of the saffron party are baseless.

“If the Opposition party makes such comments, it shows that they are very nervous, since elections are just round the corner. Our government has been very sincere in launching schemes so that people of the state can know about it and avail benefits. If BJP says that that we are blowing our own trumpet; then it is a shame because one can clearly see that it is they who are the masters in advertising and campaigning,” BJD spokesperson, Sasmit Patra said.
