Bhubaneswar: Following BJD MP Sasmit Patra's statements in the Rajya Sabha that the Centre has not implemented the recommendations of Swaminathan Committee report on fixing the MSP properly, Odisha BJP leaders slammed the BJD for 'presenting false facts in the Parliament'.

Criticising the BJD MP for allegedly spreading misinformation to mislead people, State BJP General Secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said, "I think the way the farming sector is witnessing a positive growth and progress, everyone should uniformly accept it. Some people have the habit of giving negative comments and mislead people. Regarding BJP MP Sasmit Patra's statement in the Parliament on the cost of production, I think he hasn't read the report of the Swaminathan Committee and documents of the Commission for Agricultural Prices and Costs (CACP). He should go through the recommendations of the inter-ministerial committee that was formed by the Centre on the basis of the Swaminathan Committee report."

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Sasmit Patra demanded Centre to implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee and ensure 50 per cent assured return over the cost of production.

"The cost of production has been fixed as per the labour of each family member. The MSP has been increased 1.5 times on the cost of production. BJD is creating doubts in the minds of people by bringing the issue of the rental value of the land. So far, who all have received the Rs 100 bonus announced by State government for farmers?" questioned Harichandan.

In response, BJD MLA Amar Satpathy said, "The Member of Parliament had presented proper facts. Regarding the confusion over MSP, what is the harm in bringing it under the purview of law? If the government actually wants to increase the minimum support price, there is no need to bring the MSP under the purview of law as demanded by the protesting farmers. Swaminathan panel report hasn't been implemented fully. Our concern is all farmers should be benefited."
