Bhubaneswar: BJP has once again resumed its campaign alleging lapses in Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana and accused the Odisha government of failing to fulfil its promises of building 17 lakh houses under the scheme.

Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar today, BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra slammed the State government and said that only 57, 538 houses have been built which is way less than what the State government had claimed.

"State government is claiming to have constructed 17 lakh houses under the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana but where are the facts? According to a reply given in last Assembly session, only 57,538 houses have been built; so from where this 17 lakh figure is coming from? This government has resorted to making false claims only," Mohapatra said.

The BJP spokesperson also alleged that not a single rupee has been allotted for the scheme by the State government in the last two budgets.

On the other hand, BJD spokesperson Samir Das refuted the allegation and said that relevant authorities have been directed to start the work and the process is currently underway.

"The process for the construction of 17 lakh houses is underway. As BJP is a party which spreads lies, they think every other party is doing the same," Das said.

Earlier on Tuesday, BJD leader Damodar Rout had expressed surprise over Odisha government's claim on its success in rural housing scheme and said,"It's hard to believe that 17 lakh Biju Pucca houses have been constructed in last 4 years; Kujang in Jagatsinghpur was ahead in the scheme 2 yrs back."
