Baripada: Palpable tension ran high at the District headquarters hospital (DHH) in Mayurbhanj today after BJP workers staged an agitation in the hospital premises over the transfer of 45 doctors from different hospitals of the district.

According to sources the state government has notified for transfer of 45 doctors working at various community healthcare centres in the district, however, the saffron party has alleged that the transfer of the doctors from the hospitals at a time will badly hit the health care services in the district.

A team of BJP workers led by the district president Krushna Chandra Mohapatra held discussions with the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) and raised their concerns, however the meeting remained inconclusive.

Later the members of the saffron party sat on a dharna in front of the CDMO’s office and sloganeered against the authorities.

The BJP has further threatened to intensify its agitation if decision of transfer of the doctors is not withdrawn at the earliest.

“The condition of the health care services in rural areas can be imagined if so many doctors are transferred at a time. This is a very unfortunate and we condemn the decision of transfer of doctors,” District president of BJP, Krushna Chandra Mohapatra said.

On the other hand the authorities said that government will take necessary steps to fill the vacant posts once the doctors are transferred.

“The notified doctors have not been transferred but rather they have been promoted. However adequate steps will be taken by the government to fill up the vacant posts immediately,” Mayurbhanj CDMO Dr. Purbi Mohanty said.
