Balasore: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on BJD MLA and minister Ranendra Pratap Swain over his recent statement during campaigning for the by-polls in Balasore.

The minister had courted controversy while addressing a poll meeting in Balasore three days back. He said, “The death of BJP MLA Madan Mohan Dutta has given us an opportunity.”

Swain’s remarks has not gone down well with the saffron party with senior leader Pradipta Naik terming it as “an insult to the people of Balasore.”

“The statement of the minister is uncivilised and insensitive. The people of Balasore will give a befitting reply to such remarks,” tweeted Naik.

Union Minister, Pratap Sarangi too reacted sharply over the statements made by the Odisha Minister during his election campaign for Balasore Sadar by-election.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, "It is really unfortunate and not healthy for democracy."

"After hearing such statements, I had decided not to campaign. I was deeply hurt by hearing such remarks by the minister," said Manas, late Madan Mohan Dutta's son..

Finding himself in a soup for his statement, the Minister afterwards in a tweet stated, “I shared a very close relationship with Madan Mohan Dutta and our friendship transcends our political affiliation. I never have any intention of hurting anybody's sentiments with any of my statement, especially for Manas Dutta.”
