Bhubaneswar: To press for hike in the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy and implementation of M.S. Swaminathan Committee recommendations, the BJD has decided to stage demonstration outside the Parliament in New Delhi on January 8.
Hundreds of BJD leaders and workers will leave for New Delhi in a special train to take part in the agitation, informed party vice-president Prasanna Acharya in a presser today.
Acharya, while targeting PM Narendra Modi, said that the PM forgot his promises made to the people of Odisha before the 2014 polls. He further dubbed the NDA government at the Centre as anti-farmer and said that the Modi government is exploiting the farmers.
The State House committee on paddy MSP headed by Speaker Pradip Kumar Amathad earlier wanted to meet the PM to discuss the issue but the PM did not meet them.

"We have been demanding hike in MSP of paddy and other crops for the last few years but the Centre has always turned down our demands. The BJP and the PM have lied and befooled the farmers," lambasted Acharya.
However, the BJP counter-attack the ruling-BJD stating that the latter has looted the people in its 19-years of its rule.
"Despite ruling the State for a long period, the BJD has ignored the interest of the farmers of Odisha. The farmers in the state are already disappointed with the government; the BJD is afraid of it and that is why it is making up fake stories," said BJP State vice-president, Samir Mohanty while responding to BJD's allegations.
Mohanty further alleged that the farmers in the State are hardly getting Rs 1750 per quintal on paddy as the BJD government has made a nexus with the millers to raise funds for polls but it will get a befitting answer from the farmers in the 2019 elections.
