Kendrapara: After a brief lull, BJD's Kendrapara MP Anubhav Mohanty is in a fix again, courtesy a complaint lodged against him at Sadar police station here over alleged non-payment of Rs 11.45 lakh on account of printing of posters and other campaign-related materials during 2019 general elections.

The complainant Smruti Ranjan Swain of Garapur, who happens to be the proprietor of Baladevjew Ad Media (A Printing Shop) in Kendrapara, stated that all major campaign materials including banners, posters, stickers, hoarding, van decoration, etc used for Mohanty's poll campaign were designed and printed at his shop.

While the total payable amount stood at Rs 32,56,400; Swain alleged that he first received Rs 20,55,000 cash from MP's representatives. "Later, I received Rs 30,591 (on May 1, 2019) and Rs 25,370 (on June 19, 2019), which amounts to Rs 55,961 in two instalments through cash transfer by Anubhav's personal bank account," the complainant said.

With Rs 11,45,439 still pending, Swain alleged that he is in severe mental duress now. "I had met the MP recently requesting him to clear all the pending bills. I told him about my situation. I had taken loan for all the printing that was done during polls, and I'm still repaying it. The bank has also served me notice in this regard," he said.

"Though the MP had assured me, I am yet to receive the money. I don't have a single penny now. The MP kept me waiting for months and has cited his busy schedule as the reason for delay. I was forced to lodge a complaint with local police and have also marked a copy of the complaint to PMO, CMO, Kendrapara SP and SDPO," Swain said.

Demanding justice, Swain has urged police to launch a detailed probe so that he could avail the alleged pending amount of Rs 11.45 lakh.

However, MP Anubhav Mohanty could not be contacted over the allegations levelled by Smruti Ranjan Swain.

This is not the first instance that the BJD MP has found himself in a soup, as a few months back, his neighbour Manjit Das had lodged a complaint with Purighat police in Cuttack alleging that the MP is repeatedly spreading false information on social media. Manjit had said, “Anubhav Mohanty has tarnished my image in public by tweeting false information regarding me. In the post, MP had accused me as an antisocial, criminal, drunkard. He should be booked under IT Act for misusing Twitter to defame me.”
