Bhubaneswar: During this COVID-19 pandemic, the ruling-Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders have turned into ‘super spreaders’, alleged senior Congress leader Debasish Patnaik on Sunday.

Addressing a presser, Patnaik said that rules are applicable as per party affiliation as no action is being taken against BJD leaders who are repeatedly violating COVID-19 norms.

Patnaik further alleged that recently Banki MLA celebrated birthday with scores of supporters while ex-MLA Prabhat Tripathy inaugurated three petrol pumps.

“Despite COVID-19 restrictions, how these leaders from the ruling party organised such programmes. Not only Banki, leaders of BJD are violating the COVID guidelines in different parts of the State,” said Patnaik.

He alleges that despite complaints to the concerned district Collector, no action has been taken against the violators.

“Are BJD leaders above law? If cases can be registered against BJP’s Jaynarayan Mishra and Nauri Nayak and Congress’ Sura Routray, why can’t cases be lodged againt the BJD leaders,” questioned Patnaik.

Comments of the BJD leaders or the district administration could not be obtained over the allegations levelled by the Congress leader.
