Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Lingipur under Dhauli police limits here after supporters of BJD member Rabi Patra staged road blockade protesting attack on their leader.

The incident took place during a demonstration by BJD members in the area as part of the party's state-wide strike today.

Patra alleged that during the protest, members of a particular group called him to a corner and suddenly opened fire. However, the BJD leader escaped the attack.

Patra informed the police that he was targeted over past enmity.

Following the incident, Patra's supporters staged a road blockade demanding immediate arrest of the accused leading to disruption of vehicular traffic for several hours.

Police, after reaching the spot managed to pacify the crowd and remove the road blockade.

A senior police official informed that bullet shells were recovered from the spot and the situation is under control. An investigation is currently underway.
