Balasore: It was supposed to be just foundation laying ceremony at Fakir Mohan Medical College in Balasore but it turned out to be a platform to show supremacy of political parties.

According to reports, Odisha Health Minister Naba Das and Union Minister Pratap Sarangi were invited as guests for the foundation laying ceremony of a new dengue and diarrhoea ward and a ramp at Fakir Mohan Medical College on Saturday.

During the event, activists of BJD and BJP allegedly locked horns and raised slogans in favour of leaders of their respective parties which sparked tension for quite sometime.

When asked about the ‘slogan competition’ on hospital campus, Health Minister Naba Das advised reporters to ask those who were indulging in such in it.

Speaking about the hospital infrastructure, Das said, “Odisha government is taking adequate steps for the development of infrastructure in various hospitals so that people can get benefits,” said Das.

Union Minister Pratap Sarangi, on the other hand, expressed resentment over such ruckus.

“It is really unfortunate and this should not have happened. I also vented out my grievance as there should be adequate cooperation and coordination between the State and Centre for the development,” said Sarangi.

The cost of the project at Fakir Mohan Medical College is estimated to be around Rs 1.78 crore which will be funded by both State government and Centre.
