The Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, and Sports & Youth Services today clarified that presently no welfare activities are being undertaken by the BYV anywhere in the State.

"There is no budgetary allocation in the State budget for the Biju Yuva Bahini in the current financial year, so there is no room for expenditure," Behera said while replying to a query of MLA Bhawani Shankar Bhoi.

The Minister’s statement stirred up a debate with the Opposition BJP and Congress targeting the State government.

The BJP alleged that the Biju Yuva Vahini was formed keeping in view the election which has now been proved. The party demanded clarification on the purpose of formation of BYV.

“The Yuva Vahini has failed and the government is regretting that it has committed mistake by forming it for which it has stopped the functioning of the unit. The timing of the formation of the Yuva Vahini indicates that it was created to fulfil its interest,” Leader of Opposition, Pradipta Naik said.

Similarly, PCC chief Niranjan Patnaik lashed out at the government and said there seem to be no need of Biju Yuva Vahini as there is no election now.

Member of the Parliament from Bhubaneswar constituency, Aparajita Sarangi also took to Twitter to criticize BJD and Odisha government.

Terming the move as deceitful, she said, "Making huge budget provisions for Biju Juba Bahini before elections & forgetting them after elections is the style of BJD."

Taking a dig at the government, she questioned isn't it fooling the youth of the State and also reiterated how it is only bearing only Rs.5 per kg of rice whereas the Centre is bearing Rs.32 per kg of rice.
