Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Tuesday announced waiver of fees for the upcoming Matriculation or annual high school certificate (HSC) examination.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today directed the Board Of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha to waive off the matriculation examination fee for the 2021 examination.

It is pertinent to mention that the Class 10 students have to deposit a fee of Rs 420 for enrolling themselves to appear in the matriculation examination in the State. The decision to waive off fees will benefit around 6 lakh students who are likely to appear the matriculation examination this year.

The 2020-21 academic session across Odisha was adversely affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. All the schools and other educational institutions were closed since March 2020 as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The schools, especially for Class 10, 12 students reopened in the State from January 8, 2021.

The State government in its previous notification mentioned that courses of the class 10 students will be completed by April 26 while for Plus II students syllabus will be covered by April 28.

As per the above schedule, 100 days classroom teaching will be held for class 10 and 12 students which means they will also have to attend classes every Saturday and Sunday.

The annual Matriculation examination will be held on May 3 and conclude on May 15. The practical examinations for Class 10 students will be conducted between April 29 and May 2, 2021.
