Bhubaneswar Youth Murder Case: Witnesses Seek Protection After Threats

Bhubaneswar: Even as mystery still shrouds over the exact motive behind the brutal murder of Amaresh Nayak, witnesses in the case on Thursday alleged that they are getting threats.

The witnesses also staged a dharna in front of the Police Commissioner’s office today seeking immediate arrest of the accused involved in the murder case.

Amaresh Nayak was reportedly killed over a dispute triggered by bursting of fire crackers on the occasion of Diwali in the Housing Board Colony area under Airfield Police limits in Bhubaneswar on October 27.

As per reports, around 20 armed youths opposed the celebrations and had attacked Amaresh.

The witnesses in the case alleged that the attack could be fallout of some past rivalry and the involvement of some political leader cannot be ruled out.

They have further alleged that though the name of a former corporator was mentioned in the complaint, he was detained and subsequently released by Airfield Police.

“When a candle march was organised, we received threats. Already names of the persons who brutally murdered Amaresh have been mentioned in the complaint,” said an eyewitness.

Deceased Amaresh’s brother Abhinash said, “Busting crackers cannot be the reason. We suspect some past rivalry which could be clear only after a detailed probe. Why police detained and subsequently released the former corporator?”

Police Commissioner, Sudhanshu Sarangi on the other hand ruled out any pressure on police.

“There is no question of any political pressure as there are witnesses in the case and investigation is on the right track,” said Sarangi.
