Bhubaneswar: Three persons including the main accused have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Amaresh Nayak in Bhubaneswar, informed Deputy Commissioner of Police Anup Sahoo today.

"Based on the statements of eyewitnesses, we have arrested three persons. The crime was executed over past enmity,” said Sahoo.

However, many other accused who have been named in the case are yet to be arrested.

The DCP added that Amaresh and the accused belonged to two different groups and were in good terms, but over a period of time their relationship turned bitter which then led to the murder.

Meanwhile, family members and friends of the deceased have raised questions on the investigation alleging that the prime accused is yet to be arrested.

Earlier on October 31, the witnesses in the case had alleged that they were getting threats and staged a dharna in front of the Police Commissioner’s office seeking immediate arrest of the accused involved in the murder case.

Nayak was reportedly killed over a dispute triggered by bursting of fire crackers on the occasion of Diwali in the Housing Board Colony area under Airfield Police limits in Bhubaneswar on October 27. As per reports, around 20 armed youths had attacked Amaresh, resulting in his death.
